Cyber Criminals are using pirated versions of Windows 7 RC to take control of computers and increase their botnets.  The pirated versions of the operating system became available through Torrent and news group sites, shortly after Microsoft released the RC version earlier this month.

The Trojans contained in the pirated versions are, apparently, very hard for signature based detection systems to detect, but are exposed by their botnet activities.

And, once again, the moral of the story is, if you want to try out the new operating system, make sure that you down load Windows 7 RC from the official Microsoft site.

The press is full of the fact that the UK managing director of ACER, Bobby Watkins has let slip the projected release date for Windows7 as October 23^rd 2009.

Given that even Microsoft leaked that Windows 7 RC would be out in May, I guess they can’t complain if someone else lets the cat out of the bag regarding the actual release date.  In anycase, they probably can’t wait to put Vista behind them.

This may be the result of Microsoft realising that they could be faced with another Vista fiasco, if they didn’t do something to make it possible to run older apps.  I think the expression is “enlightened self interest”.
